이에 문체부는 국정과제인 일상이 풍요로워지는 보편적 문화복지를 실현하기 위해 국가 기증 이건희 컬렉션 활용 정책을 수립하고, 국립중앙박물관 및 국립현대미술관과 연계한 지역거점 박물관·미술관에서 지역순회전을 진행하고 있다.
지난해 4월부터 8월까지 국립중앙박물관에서 문화유산 기증의 의미를 되새기는 특별전 ‘어느 수집가의 초대’를 열었다.
이를 토대로 지난해 10월부터 올해 1월까지 광주, 부산, 경남 3개 지역에서 국립광주박물관, 광주시립미술관, 경남도립미술관, 부산시립미술관 등 4개 기관과 협력해 지역순회전을 개최했다.
문체부는 올해도 지난달부터 울산, 대구, 대전, 경기, 청주, 전남 6개 지역 7개 기관에서 지역순회전을 개최하고 내년까지 지역순회를 이어갈 예정이다.
이후에는 ‘국가 기증 이건희 컬렉션’으로 더욱 풍부해진 우리 국가문화유산을 널리 알리기 위해 미국(워싱턴·시카고)과 영국(런던) 등 주요 도시에서 국외 전시를 마련할 계획이다.
이처럼 사회적·문화적 큰 관심사인 ‘이건희 컬렉션 지역순회전’은 문화 향유에 대한 국민의 높은 열망을 확인함과 동시에 대규모 기증으로 풍부해진 국가문화유산 활용의 확장성을 제시해주는 모범 사례가 됐다.
