SK Telecom and Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries meet to build an intelligent port based on 5G
Intelligent port 5G test bed construction utilization and cooperation
[The story of the case / Reporter Park Yeon-pa] = SK Telecom (CEO Park Jeong-ho) agreed with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Busan Port Terminal, Ship and Offshore Plant Research Institute, IPTL Project Promotion Team (supervised by Pusan National University) and'use and cooperation to build an intelligent port 5G test bed. It was announced that the memorandum was signed on the 14th.
5G Intelligent Port is a 5G high-speed mobile communication service that uses the Internet of Things (IoT) to automatically and autonomously collect and analyze digital location and status information between cargo, ships, workers, and conformal logistics resources in the port. It is a port that optimizes the flow of logistics.
The memorandum of understanding signing ceremony was held by Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Kim Chang-gyun, Busan Port Terminal President Lee Jun-gap, and SKT Infra Biz. Representatives from five organizations attended, including Sangsoo Shim, Head of Headquarters, Boo-gi Kim, Director of the Marine & Marine Plant Research Institute, and Hyerim Bae, Head of the IPTL Project Promotion Group.
△ Building a 5G intelligent port test bed to foster a new 5G intelligent port logistics industry △ Utilizing 5G network infrastructure to improve intelligent port operation efficiency and develop port safety technology △ Actively cooperate in supporting systematic fostering of the port software industry ecosystem in connection with domestic SMEs and startups Agreed to.
In the future, SKT will cooperate with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries to △build 5G network infrastructure and provide 5G communication modules for testing, △promote 5G intelligent port strategies and support systematic 5G-based port logistics industry ecosystem support.
If the 5G-based intelligent port is successfully built, it is possible to secure port competitiveness by providing stable port service and preventing safety accidents with a faster and faster automated system, and to reduce operating costs, as well as system maintenance, automation device operation and management, etc. SKT explained that great economic effects such as the creation of new markets and new jobs in the industry can be expected.
At the memorandum of understanding signing ceremony, an intelligent port 5G test bed service was also demonstrated. By comparing the performance of the intelligent CCTV solution in the 5G environment and the port IoT location sensing solution, respectively, the future operation of the intelligent port in the 5G environment and the information provision process were demonstrated.
In addition, by demonstrating drones, body cams, and video radio services in a 5G network environment, it directly showed whether the real-time video security control solution in the port and the real-time work situation communication between port workers.
Jung Joon-ho, head of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries' Smart Marine Logistics Promotion Manager, said, “Through the first government-led pilot construction of a port 5G test bed in Korea, a joint cooperation system has been established for fostering and developing the port logistics industry ecosystem.” We will actively cooperate so that synergy can be created.” He added, "Finally, we will strive to create innovative growth and job creation by discovering new growth engines for the future in the port logistics field."
SKT Sangsoo Shim Infra Biz. “SKT plans to take the lead in implementing 5G-based intelligent ports using new ICTs such as 5G, AI, and IoT,” said the head of the division. “We will do our best to accelerate innovation in port logistics in Korea through 5G.”
