이날 제1차 대외경제현안 간담회를 주재한 최 권한대행은 조태열 외교부 장관, 방기선 국무조정실장, 박성택 산업통상자원부 1차관, 정인교 통상교섭본부장 등과 함께 부처별 미국 신정부 대응 태세를 점검하고 향후 대응 방향 등을 논의하며 이같이 밝혔다.

한편 대외경제현안 간담회는 미 신정부 출범 등 대외경제 현안을 신속하게 파악하고 체계적으로 대응하기 위해 최 권한대행의 지시로 마련한 회의체로, 이에 최 권한대행이 직접 주재해 매주 월요일 정례 개최할 예정이다.

이날 최 권한대행은 올해 우리 경제의 대내외 불확실성이 크게 확대될 것으로 예상하는 한편, 엄중한 상황에 대한 대응에 공백이 생길 수 있다는 국내외의 우려도 있는 상황이라고 밝혔다.

이에 미 신정부 출범 전 우리 경제에 파급효과가 큰 산업별 이슈를 꼼꼼히 점검하고, 출범 직후 가용한 수단을 총동원해 미 신정부와 소통·협의해 나갈 방침이다.

특히 정부는 새해에도 굳건한 외교·안보를 바탕으로 우리 경제를 새로운 통상 환경에 연착륙시키고, 민생 안정을 위해 관계 부처, 민간이 ‘원팀’이 돼 혼신의 힘을 다할 것이다.
