[사건의내막 / 문홍철 기자] = 산업통상자원부는 6일 안덕근 장관이 이날부터 오는 10일까지 미국을 방문해 미 의원 및 연방·주 정부인사 등을 면담해 산업·통상·에너지 분야에서의 양국 협력을 강화하고 지미 카터 전 미 대통령 서거에 대해 조문도 할 예정이라고 밝혔다.

 

안 장관은 6~7일에 자동차·배터리·반도체 등 첨단산업 분야 우리 기업이 다수 진출해 있는 조지아주를 방문한다.

 

조지아주에서는 브라이언 켐프(Brian Kemp) 조지아 주지사 등을 면담해 조지아주에 투자한 우리 기업에 대한 적극적인 지원과 관심을 요청할 예정이다.

 

아울러, SK온 조지아 공장 방문 및 조지아주 진출기업 간담회를 통해 대미 투자 기업의 애로사항 점검과 함께 조지아주 차원에서 한-미 산업 협력 강화방안을 논의할 계획이다.

안 장관은 이어서, 8~10일에는 워싱턴 D.C.를 방문해 우리 기업의 대미 투자 및 기업 활동과 관련이 있는 미국 상·하원 의원 등을 면담해 우리 기업의 대미 투자와 활동이 안정적으로 이루어질 수 있도록 미 의회 차원의 관심과 지원을 요청할 예정이다.

 

더불어, 미 업계 및 싱크탱크 관계자 면담 등을 통해 첨단산업 분야 한-미 협력 강화 방안에 대해서도 의견을 교환할 예정이다.

 

안 장관은 “지미 카터 전 미 대통령은 한-미 간 안정적이고 굳건한 협력 관계를 유지하는 데 크게 기여했다”고 말하면서 카터 전 미국 대통령의 서거를 애도했다.

 

또한 “이번 방미는 우리 기업의 안정적인 대미 비즈니스 환경을 보장하고 미국 신정부에서도 한-미 간 산업·통상·에너지 전 분야에서의 협력을 강화하는 계기가 된 방문”이라고 밝혔다.
