[사건의내막 / 김지호 기자] = 김동연 경기도지사가 9일 글로벌 반도체 기업 온세미(onsemi)를 방문해 안정적 투자환경 조성을 위한 협력 방안을 논의하고 투자 확대를 독려했다.

 

지난 8일 주한 미국·유럽상공회의소 방문에 이은 ‘경제재건’ 행보로, 국내 정세로 위기감을 느낄 수 있는 외국인투자자들을 안심시키기 위해 도내 외투기업을 방문한 것이다.

 

김동연 지사는 9일 오전 부천 온세미코리아 강병곤 대표이사와 만나 경기도의 외국인 투자 환경 개선 노력과 반도체 및 전기차 분야에서의 협력 가능성을 강조했다. 특히, 온세미가 경기도에서 지속적으로 투자와 고용을 확대해 나갈 수 있도록 적극 지원하겠다는 의지를 밝혔다.

 

김동연 지사는 “지금 한국에는 경제적으로 두 가지 쇼크가 같이 왔다. 하나는 트럼프 정부 출범으로 인한 국제경제의 대전환기라는 의미에서의 트럼프 쇼크이고, 또 하나가 윤석열 쇼크”라고 진단했다.

 

김 지사는 “2개의 쇼크가 와서 해외투자자들이 걱정할 수밖에 없는 상황이 됐는데 저는 그간 교류해 왔던 세계 경제·정치 지도자들 2,500여 명에게 편지를 보내서 ‘걱정하지 마시라. 어려움 속에서 (위기를) 극복하고 만들어 온 게 지금 한국 경제다. 빠른 시간 내에 불확실성을 제거해서 다시 회복탄력성 보일 것’이라고 안심을 시켜줬다”고 소개했다.

 

그런 뒤 “말씀드린 것처럼 전혀 걱정하지 마시라. 온세미에 적극적인 협조를 조금도 의심하시지 마시라”고 말했다.

 

김동연 지사는 특히 “경제활동을 하는 데 보수, 진보 따질 것이 없다. 제대로 된 진보는 시장경제를 존중하고 기업의 활동을 기업이 충분히 하게끔 도와주는 것이다. 다만 시장과정에서의 불공정, 시장결과에서 나오는 불공평 문제에 대해서는 정책적으로 해결해야 한다”고 강조했다.

 

이어 “지금 (정국) 상황에 천착해서 더 큰 그림을 못 보는 게 많은데, 경제 돌아가는 거나 글로벌 흐름에 대해서 우리 정치가 신경을 써야 한다”면서 “빨리 불확실성이 제거되고 우리 경제, 그리고 새로 만들어진 정부가 잘 해나가기를 기대하며, 나도 최선을 다하겠다”고 다짐했다.

 

강병곤 대표이사는 “시스템 반도체 자체가 국가전략사업이듯이 개발과 생산에 있어 부가가치가 있다고 생각한다”며 “코로나처럼 글로벌 위기가 있을 때 국내에서 할 수 있다는 장점이 있기 때문에 그런 것을 잘 살려서 국가경제에도 그렇지만 부천시, 경기도가 자랑하실 수 있도록 해보겠다”고 화답했다.

 

이어 “정치, 경제가 같이 묶여서 빨리 안정화 되는 게 중요하다. 저희들이 할 수 있는 것을 경쟁력으로 삼아 여기서 살아 남을 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 덧붙였다.

 

이번 방문은 경기도가 최근 진행한 외국인 투자기업 간담회의 후속 조치로, 첨단산업 분야에서의 협력 확대와 현장 중심의 소통 강화를 목표로 하고 있다. 경기도는 온세미를 비롯한 외국인 투자기업과의 긴밀한 협력을 통해 반도체, 전기차 등 미래 산업의 선두주자로 나아갈 계획이다.
