[사건의내막 / 문홍철 기자] = 우리나라와 아랍에미리트(UAE)가 특별 전략적 동반자 관계를 바탕으로 원유 공급과 원전·플랜트 분야 협력을 가속하기로 했다.
산업통상부는 김정관 장관이 지난 16일 자원안보 강화와 경제협력 확대를 위한 중동 3개국 방문 마지막 일정으로 UAE를 방문했다고 17일 밝혔다.
UAE는 중동지역에서 유일한 특별 전략적 동반자 관계 국가이자 우리 원유 도입 3위 국가로, 지난 3월 전략경제협력특사 방문 당시 모하메드 빈 자이드 알 나흐얀 대통령 예방 등을 통해 전 세계적인 원유수급 비상상황에서 한국에 최우선으로 원유를 공급하겠다고 약속한 바 있다.
이번 방문은 특사 방문 당시 합의한 원유 도입 이행 상황을 점검하고, 원유 공동 비축, 원전·플랜트 등 양국 간 전략적 협력 과제를 논의하기 위해 추진했다.

우선, 양측은 바라카 원전 운영의 전주기 협력 심화를 위해 진행하고 있는 핵연료의 안정적 수급, 원전 정비 협력 강화, 원전 운영의 인공지능(AI)·디지털전환(DT) 적용 확대에 관한 양국 기업 간 협력 프로젝트 추진 현황을 점검하고 사업 구체화 방안을 논의했다.
