[사건의내막 / 문홍철 기자] = 이재명 대통령은 10일(현지시간) 오전 벨기에 브뤼셀에서 바트 드 웨브흐 벨기에 총리와 정상회담을 갖고, 올해 수교 125주년을 맞이한 양국 간 관계 발전 방안과 주요 지역·국제 정세 등에 대해 논의했다고 강유정 청와대 수석대변인이 브리핑했다.
회담에서 이 대통령은 취임 후 첫 유럽 순방에서 올해 양국 수교 125주년을 맞이하는 벨기에를 방문하게 된 점을 뜻깊게 생각한다고 전했다.
드 웨브흐 총리는 한세기가 넘는 양국 간 우정을 기념하는 올해, 대한민국 대통령을 벨기에에 모시게 된 것을 매우 기쁘게 생각한다고 답했다.
이 대통령은 벨기에가 6·25전쟁 당시 전투부대를 파병해 대한민국의 자유와 평화를 위해 헌신해 준 것이 한국의 세계 10위권 경제대국 부상에 기여했다며 감사를 전했다.

강 대변인은 "한-EU 정상회담에서 양측 정상은 안보·방위, 경제·통상, 기후·재생에너지, 디지털·첨단과학기술 등 양자 협력뿐만 아니라 한반도, 중동 등 주요 지역 및 글로벌 현안에 대해서도 심도 있게 논의할 예정"이라고 소개했다.
